Kibble and wet food can be fed separately or together. Mixed feeding combines convenience, different textures, enjoyment and water intake. The key rule is simple: a portion of wet food does not come on top of a full kibble portion; it replaces part of it.
- Choose two complete foods adapted to the same profile.
- Calculate the shares according to calories, not just grams.
- Introduce the new food gradually.
- Remove wet food after the meal and follow the storage instructions.
1 What each format brings
Dry food is energy-dense, easy to portion and convenient for some food-enrichment activities. Wet food contains more water, offers a different texture and can increase the volume served. Neither format is universally better: the choice depends on whether the product is complete and on the animal’s profile and preferences.
For cats, wet food can contribute to water intake. It never replaces permanent access to fresh water.
2 Avoid double ration
Use the manufacturer's mixed feeding guide when it exists. Otherwise, reason in proportion to the energy ration: for example, half the calories dry and the other half wet. The weights served will be very different because of water.
The sweets must also be included in the total. If the weight increases, really measure the quantities before concluding that the mixed diet is not suitable.
3 Serve and store correctly
Keep kibble in its closed packaging inside a clean, dry container. Once opened, wet food must be refrigerated according to the manufacturer’s instructions and used promptly. Do not leave a wet portion at room temperature for several hours.
Clean bowls every day, especially when feeding wet food. For a sensitive animal, introduce the texture and recipe gradually.
We give you clear, straightforward answers.
Can we mix kibble and wet food in the same bowl?+
Yes if the animal accepts, the two products are suitable for its profile and the total ration is recalculated.
Can a complementary wet food replace kibble?+
No. A supplementary food does not cover all the needs alone. For a daily meal, look for the word "full food".
