The quantity shown on the bag is an estimate based on a typical animal. Actual needs depend on ideal weight, age, neuter status, activity, temperature and the food’s energy density. A successful ration is therefore calculated, measured and then adjusted.

To be retained
  • Use the animal’s ideal weight rather than its current overweight body weight.
  • Weigh the ration with a kitchen balance.
  • Include wet food, treats and leftovers in the total intake.
  • Re-evaluate after two to four weeks with weight and silhouette.
01

1 From manufacturer's recommendation

Find the row for the animal’s ideal weight and activity level. If a range is provided, start in the middle unless instructed otherwise. Energy density varies between foods: 200 g of one recipe is not necessarily equivalent to 200 g of another.

For a puppy, kitten, pregnant or lactating female, use the table corresponding to the physiological stage. Needs change faster and warrant close monitoring.

02

2 Count everything that is eaten

With mixed feeding, reduce the kibble portion when adding wet food. Treats, chews and table scraps also provide energy. Without this calculation, even a small daily handful can unbalance the ration.

Divide the daily amount into meals adapted to the animal's rhythm. Splitting does not change the total intake, but can improve comfort and organization.

03

3 Adjust with simple data

Weigh the animal under the same conditions, observe its silhouette and note the given ration. If the weight drifts, gradually change the quantity and control again. Avoid frequent changes that prevent you from understanding what works.

Unexplained variation in weight, unusual hunger, decreased appetite or persistent digestive signs should lead to the veterinary advice being sought.

Frequently Asked Questions

We give you clear, straightforward answers.

Is a dosage glass enough?+

A kitchen balance is more precise: the shape and density of the kibble can greatly vary the weight for the same volume.

Should we give the same ration all year round?+

Not always. Activity, season, age and body condition can change, so the ration deserves to be reassessed regularly.
